Wireless Communication Engineer - Coop
Job Description
We’re seeking a Wireless Communications Engineer Co‑op to join our R&D team working on next‑generation hybrid satellite‑terrestrial networks. You’ll contribute to the design, simulation, and prototyping of real‑time radio and protocol systems that enable resilient, low‑latency connectivity for defense, aerospace, and public‑safety applications.
This co‑op role is ideal for students passionate about wireless systems, digital communications, and hands‑on engineering from simulation and modeling to real‑world testing.
What You’ll Do
Support the design and testing of PHY‑ and MAC‑layer algorithms for hybrid satellite‑terrestrial links (e.g., link adaptation, Doppler compensation, interference mitigation).
Implement and evaluate protocol harmonization and handover control strategies across TN/NTN, including buffer management and transport‑layer adaptation.
Contribute to RRC (Layer 3) procedure design for mobility and connection management in mixed network scenarios.
Develop models and simulations of wireless channels capturing delay, fading, and mobility impacts.
Assist in building test environments using SDRs, embedded hardware, and real‑time telemetry pipelines.
Collaborate with AI/ML engineers to integrate network‑aware intelligence for adaptive connectivity and performance optimization.
What We’re Looking For
Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Solid understanding of digital communications and signal processing fundamentals (modulation, coding, synchronization, channel estimation).
Experience with C/C++ or Python; familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink is a plus.
Exposure to wireless protocols (LTE, 5G NR, Wi‑Fi, satellite systems) or networking stacks.
Curiosity and initiative — you’re comfortable diving into technical papers, specs, and new tools to solve open‑ended problems.
Nice to Have
Experience with software‑defined radios, FPGA/SoC development, or embedded programming.
Coursework or projects related to satellite communications, adaptive modulation, or network optimization.
Familiarity with 3GPP standards or emerging NTN technologies.
